Charity Helping South Sudanese Women & Children Rebuilt Their Lives
Age: 8
Gender: Female
Location: Bulonde, Wakiso district, Uganda
Kidden is the oldest of four children. The 8-year-old had to drop out of Rubaga Martyr primary school this spring because her mum could no longer afford to pay her school fees. She was enrolled in P.3 (year 3 primary school) and was a good pupil. Kidden comes from a vagrant family, and each night her family sleep in different homes.
Kidden’s parents are South Sudanese refugees who fled to Uganda in 2015 to escape the civil war. The family settled in Bolunde, a ghetto in the outskirt of Kampala, Uganda. Although Kidden and her four siblings have been living with their neighbor, it is their mother who is their breadwinner. Her father is in Uganda and his whereabouts is unknown. As a largely uneducated, her mum has had a hard time finding decent work. The children make ends meet by begging for food.
Life is really hard for the family, and all four of the children are not in school due to poverty. In Uganda, parents or guardians must pay school fees to fund school buildings, books, writing materials, school meals, and uniforms. Kidden is the only child in the family who is literally crying for an education.
Kidden needs your love and support, so she can go to boarding school to escape a lifetime cycle of poverty. She dreams of becoming a lawyer when she finishes her education. Her favorite subject is Christian religious education, and she also enjoys drama and singing. Your monthly support will pay her school fees; provide her with food, clothes, and medical care; and prevent her from having to beg during school hours to help support her family.
