Location: Kajjansi, Wakiso district, Uganda
James Ohyeru is an alien who is living in acute hardship in Kajjansi slum, a suburb of Kampala, Uganda. As an unlucky child, James lacks the basic needs, such as; shoes, a bed, blankets, bed-sheets, playthings, eateries, and has virtually no dresses. Because of refugee status, James’s parents have been unable to find work around Kampala. James, and his siblings are living with his grandmother, who is also a dependent. Therefore, James’s family barely survive on an irregular assistance from the neighbours.
James, a child of South Sudanese refugee parents, dwells in Uganda with his grandmother. When his father left to look for a greener pastures away from home in 2015, his mother began doing odd jobs to sustain her four children. Now, his mother runs a tiny business, just to survive. However, due to a stiff rivalry, and lack of a loan capital, the venture went under, and her little incomes cannot cover the basic needs. James and three of his siblings are not in school due to unpaid fees. In Uganda, parents and guardians must pay school fees, to fund school buildings, books, writing materials, school meals, and uniforms.
James is a gifted schoolchild and speaks English as a second language. He attended a baby class (first-year kindergarten) before his school suspended him. He needs your love and assistance so he can go to a kindergarten, and escape a recurrence cycle of poverty.
